Навчальний посібник "Теоретична граматика сучасної англійської мови"  Харітонова І. К. складається з двох частин: для студентів денного відділення і студентів-заочників. Видання цілком самодостатнє й спрямоване на активізацію самостійної роботи студентів, розвиток у них умінь і навичок самостійного критичного аналізу теоретичної літератури з граматики, творчої самостійності і незалежності суджень (міркувань).

До посібника "Теоретична граматика сучасної англійської мови" додаються оригінальні схеми, які є наочним узагальненням деяких теоретичних положень. Вони будуть сприяти кращому засвоюванню та запам'ятовуванню матеріалу.

Preface

This book is intended as a manual for the theoretical course on English grammar. Its purpose is to introduce full time students to some major linguistic problems connected with grammatical structure of English and to the modem methods applied in dealing with them. We have endeavoured, as far as it was possible, to point out the essence of the problems and to state the arguments which have been, or may be, put forward in favour of one view or another. This may enable and encourage the reader to form a judgement of his own on the relevant question involved, and it may also help the students to gain a deeper insight into the structure and peculiarities of Modern English. It seems to be a valuable accomplishment for a future specialist in English.

The book contains 20 themes (guides) and 8 seminars, as well as over 30 summarizing diagrams and tables. In their seminar hours the students are expected not only to dwell on the problems expounded in the book but also present reports or scientific presentations on the same problems, as well as to analyse some views held by various authors. Of course, much will depend in each case on the teacher's own choice and on the particular interests ex­pressed by the students.
